Hernia

In 19xx I fell from a steel step and broke my ankle in three places. Due to the intervention of a skilled surgeon and also my good condition, I recovered quickly for my age and can walk excellently again.

A year later I suffered quite acutely from a serious hernia. When I fell from the iron stairs, no attention was paid to possible damage to the spinal column. To combat the pain I was given a morphine injection three times a day. That helped for a few hours, but then the pain returned with all its intensity. After about 14 days I contacted chiropractor Langley on my own initiative. He took the anamnesis, did an examination and took x-rays, which he then discussed with me. Initially I was treated twice a week and as my complaints decreased this slowly decreased.

At this moment, November 2011, I am still under treatment and it is going very well. I had a “maintenance visit” once every 2 to 3 months, which is also a check-up. The preventive value of these visits is important – preventing complaints and problems. In retrospect, it is a pity that I did not start treatment earlier. I now have pain in my upper leg more often, which is most likely a result of a nerve that was pinched for too long by the pressure of the vertebra(s).

I didn’t trust my own feelings enough then. After all, every person feels his own body best.

Facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia)

Finally…my story!

The diagnosis was trigeminal neuralgia! And my way to the chiropractor.
I remember it well. Even when I was very young, I regularly had pain in my teeth; especially between the canines in my lower jaw.

Of course it was understandable because I sucked my thumb like a dear. But as I got older the pain remained. Not always nagging in the background. Moreover, every dentist told me the same thing. Conclusion… nothing to it then.

As I got older, migraine attacks started… which was also understandable given the fact that there was a hereditary component. When I was 27, a dental technician told me that I could be relieved of the toothache if I had my teeth pulled and then continue my life with dentures. Pain-free in prospect… so I had all my teeth pulled out immediately.

But after a while the pain returned. Strange but true, but you live with it while the pain gradually increased in intensity and frequency. A few years ago I suddenly woke up in the night; had to vomit continuously, heard a crack in my head and the whole world suddenly turned. I could no longer get my words out and had loss of strength in my right hand and leg. I could no longer stand on my feet, both literally and figuratively. I was admitted to the hospital, it turned out to be an acute attack of the inner ear and I was allowed to go home the next day, at my insistence. Since they thought it was a brain hemorrhage, I ended up at the neurologist. I visited this neurologist 6 weeks later.

In de tussentijd had ik alle klachten opgeschreven van de laatste jaren om deze aan hem voor te leggen.

In the meantime, I had written down all the complaints from the last few years to present to him.

  • pain in the right side of my face, especially in my jaws
  • stiff feeling, feeling as if my tongue is thick and stiff
  • stabbing pain like needles being stuck in my face (location from under my eye, cheek and chin
  • pain in my lower teeth

He asked me about my pain perception on a scale of 0 to 10. It was a seven. But I have to be honest and say that there were also days when I fervently wished a truck would run over me so that I would be rid of the pain for good. But I didn’t tell them that! Suppose they thought I was suicidal (I work as a psychiatric nurse). My diagnosis was finally made; there is a trigeminal neuralgia or facial pain. My perspective would be medication to support it, but I shouldn’t expect miracles from it. First came medication; Tegretol. Within a few days I felt that I was becoming more and more aggressive, I was constantly on the verge of exploding, which is what happened! I felt that I was getting overheated for nothing, it seemed! I felt like a walking time bomb… I started to lose my self-control, felt that I was going to war.

Telephone consultation with neurologist; advice: continue since this complaint would not be due to the medication! Against advice, stopped this medication immediately. Second opinion requested and received in Maastricht. Other medication, Amytryptiline. Seemed to work at first but soon the dosage had to be increased with minimal effect. At my request, switched to Gabapentine but this also provided little relief. Advice from neurologist; give it a place and accept that there is nothing more to be done. In passing, the proposal of surgical intervention to completely paralyze the nerve came up, but then my half of the face would no longer have any facial expressions. This was unacceptable to me.

My trust in the medical world was shaken. I was at my wits’ end. And then came the day that my partner came home with the message that a chiropractor would be a possibility for treating the complaints of facial pain. This sounded too good to be true, but I wanted to experience this.

Soon, after the 2nd treatment, there was a significant reduction in the complaints and soon followed days, sometimes weeks, in which I was completely pain-free. However, I continue to visit my chiopractor regularly for a maintenance treatment. I can still fill up with tears, tears of happiness that this opportunity has come my way and I also want to share my experiences with everyone.

If our paths should part, I will look back with gratitude on your work, your dedication and openness,

Crying baby

Dear Mr. Langley,

We would like to thank you for treating our son (11 weeks old). When we came to you 4 weeks ago, we had a son who only cried and we didn’t know what was wrong. We had to carry him all day and he only slept in our arms. Fortunately, we heard through the grapevine that we should take our son to a chiropractor. The people who told us said that with a quick delivery, something could be wrong with our son’s vertebrae. The delivery only took 5.5 hours and they also had to turn our son’s head because he wasn’t in the right place at all.
Now, 4 weeks later, our son is doing very well. He finally sleeps in his own bed and sleeps through the night! He can now also enjoy himself in the playpen without crying. He is also a lot happier!
We are happy that we have been treated by you and we recommend everyone who thinks they have a crying baby and had a quick delivery to make an appointment with you.

Baby (poor sleep)

When our little girl was born we were overjoyed. We were very proud of our beautiful little girl. It soon became apparent that she had a sleeping problem. She only had “cat naps”. During the day she slept for an hour with a bit of luck and in the evening after the last bottle at 11 o’clock she slept until 2-3 o’clock. Then she was simply done sleeping and didn’t sleep at all for the whole night. This is of course far too little for a small baby. I mentioned this at the child health clinic and asked what I should do about this. The answer I got was “just leave her there and let her cry, she will fall asleep again by herself”.

We followed this advice and the result was that no one had any sleep. She cried from 2-3 in the morning until early in the morning. We were dead tired and this could not go on any longer.

We then asked the GP for a referral to the paediatrician at the hospital in Roermond. There we were told that small babies cry and that she would be spoiled. We knew that this was not true and that something else was wrong. She was not examined at the hospital, so we did not get any further there either. When we got home we called the hospital in Maastricht and made an appointment there…. We were not taken seriously there either and it would all be fine, we just had to persevere!!!

Then we contacted a sleep center and asked if they could help us there. They told us that she was still a little girl and that we should call back when she could talk! Everyone in the house was ‘dead and exhausted’ by now. We didn’t know where to look anymore.
We hadn’t had a night’s sleep for 20 months by then. We were so desperate that we even had mediums come to our home, we didn’t know what to do anymore.
Until an acquaintance told me… go to chiropractor Langley. We had already tried everything so with our last hope we went to chiropractor Langley.
When we were inside he felt the back of her neck and asked if they had pulled her during the birth. They had indeed pulled her head quite a bit. Chiropractor Langley then said that there was something wrong with her neck and shoulders and that he could help us. We were overjoyed, finally we were taken seriously and someone even knew what was wrong!

Chiropractor Langley then started working with her and the first night our little girl slept through the night, wonderful… I checked on her 5 times that night to see if everything was okay with her because we had never experienced this before, but she slept like a baby. Our daughter currently goes to chiropractor Langley every now and then and she is doing well.

We are still grateful to chiropractor Langley every day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Arthrosis/chronic back pain

Dear chiropractor Langley,

I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your wonderful care over the past 5 years while I was undergoing treatments for “spinabifida occulata and bilateral osteoarthritis”.
I especially appreciate the straightforward way you handled my condition. My doctor wanted to numb the joints in my hip. Years of regular visits to physical therapists had not improved my condition. I am glad I came into contact with you. I was able to tell my friends and family that I could “fly again”.
The weight and pressure was greatly reduced in my rheumatic hip and back. I would also like to thank you for finding the time immediately to treat my neck muscles. My improved health is a credit to your expertise and attention. I will certainly continue to recommend you to everyone I know.
Keep up the good work.

Chronic neck and shoulder complaints

I would like to share my findings about chiropractor Langley.
I have been visiting chiropractor Langley regularly for almost 10 years. My neck and shoulder complaints are permanent.
But thanks to the very good and effective treatment I can live with this well. Despite my age of almost 65 I can still play badminton, aqua jogging and so on every week.

I hope to be able to continue to use the wonderfully good treatments for a long time. My husband recently went for treatment. He suffers a lot from osteoarthritis, which will never go away, but thanks to intensive treatment and exercises, walking, cycling and even gently exercising are now much better.

His motto is: “I should have left much earlier, but it was not too late yet”.

So much for the eulogy for chiropractor Langley.

A very satisfied patient,
